Memories of us
By Zarah Parker
Stitches in a sidewalk,
lines in a glass, the dark rim
at the top of my coffee cup—
all remind me of a photo
I took of us the summer
after I turned eighteen.
We were beautiful then.
Palms full of clovers,
picked out of habit when sitting
in grass, waiting for the Scotsman
to finish.
I like the opening with “stitches” and “lines.” This creates a good image. Also, the poem sounds like youth and the innocence that comes with that age.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how much more impactful are the words that paint a picture. Poetry is an art to savor and your capturing of a moment in time had me seeing my own reflection in that moment. Thank you for sharing your art.

This is an excellent piece. Loved the imagery, found it very touching as you revealed the relevance of the things you talk about in the first two lines. Also your use of line breaks and stanza works great. Thanks for sharing. It’s a real beautiful thing to use words to create a psychological and emotional reaction in a reader and you managed it here with me.

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback. I’m always a bit wary of putting my creative work up, so it’s nice to get real reactions from people 😊
