Long Way From Home
By Zarah Parker

I’m a long way from home,
A plane, a train, a car – I have no need.

I’ll ride my bike to 7th Street
and buy a ticket to the theater showing
black and white films.
Today they’re playing Marlon Brando
after Jimmy Stewart.
I close my eyes and
listen to Brando’s troubled voice,
and forget my own.

My father will pick me up—
I’ll forget my bike. I’ll not have long to wait.
