“if you could just get people to talk, he believed, the most bitter antagonists could discover common ground.”
― Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland
This book is one of the best non-fiction books I’ve picked up. Highly recommend!
Sounds like an interesting read!

The lesson from Northern Ireland is that in order to progress towards peace, at some point one side has to stop retaliating, no matter what provocation occurs. That’s why I have no hope for a resolution of the Palestinian conflict any time soon

Yes, but when one side stop retaliating…. it usually means that the other side is winning. What other choice is there other than to find a new course of action? If no one is pulling ahead there’s no real reason to stop fighting back.
That progress toward peace is good – but it’s not usually a middle ground, it leans (at least a little) toward the side that “won.”
