“He said that those who have endured some misfortune will always be set apart but that it is just that misfortune which is their gift and which is their strength.”
― All The Pretty Horses
Have you read a McCarthy novel? I recently finished All The Pretty Horses.
Good quote. Hemingway said something similar – if you have hardship, then use it. Don’t waste it.
For me, I try to remember that my misfortune or yours are different and I try not to compare and downplay what I may have felt or how you may feel. Just use how you feel and harness that emotion.

That’s a good way of looking at it.

A new term I learned yesterday: Post Traumatic Growth. It’s possible that more than 1/2 of folks who experience trauma grow from it rather than succumb to stress disorder.

That sounds half hopeful 😅
But that’s really interesting. I’d never heard of it before.

This is so true for me. I went through a very traumatic experience. I let it haunt me and keep me down for years until I realized that my strength to overcome it would inspire anyone like me to do the same.
